Airborne Angel Cadets Group Our group started out as a bunch of moms whose kids were involved in the high school band. When the kids graduated, we got together and sent care packages to our, now, college students.

After about a year, some of the students no longer wanted their packages, and our group of moms started to disband.

Being a flight attendant and seeing many of our soldiers on flights going to Iraq, I asked the moms if they would like to get together and send boxes to the troops. I got a resounding "yes" from everyone. I did some research and found several sites where we could adopt a soldier and/or a platoon. We decided to adopt a platoon and support them throughout the duration of their deployment.

I let the moms select the name of the Group and we were formed in January of 2005. Since then, we have plugged along, recruiting fellow friends, flight attendants, and co-workers.

We get together about once a month to box up packages, often with a theme (Christmas, Easter, Texas, etc) to send to the troops.

We have even received donations of items from various businesses such as Walgreens, CVS, Trinity Pharmacy, Starbucks, and Vitamin World. We are a nickel and dime operation and most of the funding comes out of our own pockets with postage being our largest expense.

We send the soldiers everything from sheets, towels, fans, heaters, food/snacks, socks, water bottles, coffee, toiletries, games, DVD's to duct tape, batteries, extension cords, tools, bungee cords and converters. Anything to make their stay a little easier and brighter and to help them feel the comforts of home.

So many of these soldiers are very young and their families are in no position to send them anything, or they have joined the military to escape their families and to find a new one. Whatever their reason for joining, and however you may feel about the war, these soldiers are making a huge sacrifice, and for many, the ultimate sacrifice. I do not want them to be forgotten and want to continue to let them know that they are thought about, prayed for and appreciated.

It's the least we can do.
