It not always about care package parties and collecting donations, sometimes we have to get a little creative with the donations we receive! Saturday, February 17 was one of those times. The Airborne Angel Cadets received a large number of flip flops for the troops - which is great. The challenge was that they weren't assembled! So, we set up a "party" with teams to attached the straps to the soles. And, to make it even more of a challenge, we there were 6000 flips flips in different colors and different sizes, but only 25 of the tools needed to attach the straps. A few of the "workday" volunteers have spent the last few weeks sorting and matching the soles along with the correct straps (they had to be the correct size, color and either a left or a right foot strap) and putting them into bags. This made it much easier for the teams to assemble the flip flops and have a pair in the same color and size. The flip flops will be sent in care packages throughout the year.
Thanks to some Toyota volunteers along with the Angels, we assembled over 500 pairs. Now, we only have around 5000 more to assemble!!! |
